Frontier Airlines is continuing its route expansion with its latest destination of Burbank, California.

The Denver-headquartered airline has revealed nonstop flights from Burbank (BUR) to several cities according to its bookings. Starting July 15, Frontier Airlines will inaugurate Burbank as its newest city from Denver (DEN), Phoenix (PHX), and Las Vegas (LAS). Each of these routes will operate once a day.

Since April 2021, Frontier Airlines has added nine cities to its network:
  • Rochester, New York (ROC)
  • Anchorage, Alaska (ANC)
  • Durango, Colorado (DRO)
  • Grand Junction, Colorado (GJT)
  • Kalispell, Montana (FCA)
  • Nassau, Bahamas (NAS)
  • San Jose, Costa Rica (SJO)
  • St. Maarten (SXM)
  • Burbank, California (BUR)

The carrier has added over 40 routes since April and continues to expand with these three new routes to Burbank.

Battling Startup Avelo Airlines and Others to Phoenix

Just two weeks ago, Avelo Airlines, America's newest mainline carrier in 15 years, began passenger flights out of Burbank. Last week, the carrier launched its daily Burbank to Phoenix Mesa (AZA) route using Boeing 737-800s.

Avelo Airlines seems to have elicited competitive responses from other carriers. Specifically, American Airlines intends to ramp up capacity on its Phoenix to Burbank route by adding more mainline Airbus A319 flights. Now, Frontier Airlines is entering Burbank with Phoenix as one of the initial routes.

Frontier Airlines will also face competition from Southwest Airlines, who has scheduled up to five daily flights on PHX-BUR, and JSX with a daily Embraer flight.

Additionally, Frontier Airlines will compete against United Airlines and Southwest Airlines on Burbank to Denver. Frontier will rival Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines, and JSX on Burbank to Las Vegas.

Note: At the time of publishing, Frontier Airlines has not released an announcement on adding flights to Burbank. Data on Frontier's new Burbank flights comes from their bookings, which should be accurate. There may be more routes other than BUR-PHX/LAS/DEN.
