After launching flights from Burbank, California (BUR) to Tucson, Arizona (TUS) nearly one month ago, Avelo Airlines has decided to abruptly end the route after this Sunday.

Avelo Airlines announced it would launch flights from its
Burbank base to Tucson in September and commenced the route on December 16, 2021. Avelo scheduled the route with a twice-weekly frequency but increased it to four weekly flights during the "peak holiday season".

The airline also intended to increase frequencies for Burbank-Tucson from two to four times a week during March, April, and June instead of only operating the increased schedule over the holidays. Avelo's flights to Tucson were originally bookable through the end of its available schedule, however, this is no longer the case.

Avelo Airlines confirms that it will no longer offer service to Tucson after its last flight on January 16. The airline cites a lack of demand due to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases with the spread of the omicron variant.

This morning, Avelo Airlines removed all availability for flights between Burbank and Tucson after January 16, 2022. Additionally, yesterday afternoon, Avelo removed the city from its destinations list and route map:

Avelo Airlines launched in April 2021. In addition to Tucson, the airline has already canceled flights to six destinations, all of which were scheduled from its Burbank base:

  • Phoenix-Mesa, Arizona (AZA)
  • Grand Junction, Colorado (GJT)
  • Bozeman, Montana (BZN)
  • Monterey, California (MRY)
  • St. George, Utah (SGU)
  • Provo, Utah (PVU)

Avelo served Phoenix, Grand Junction, and Bozeman for several months before pulling out of those markets. Monterey, St. George, and Provo were all announced by Avelo but canceled before launch.
