In the past several weeks, United Airlines has made changes to its network. This post will cover United Airlines ending flights to Paine Field, delaying its highly-anticipated Bangalore launch, and increasing its new Accra route this winter.

Goodbye, Paine Field

United Airlines commenced service to Paine Field/Snohomish County Airport on March 31, 2019 with routes to its San Francisco (SFO) and Denver (DEN) hubs. About a year after launch, United cut the San Francisco route, leaving Denver as its sole destination from Paine Field.

United currently operates a daily Embraer 175 flight between Denver and Paine Field. According to its current schedule, United will operate its final flight out of Paine Field on October 4, 2021. The last inbound flight from Denver arrives the night before.

Right before the COVID-19 pandemic, United Airlines increased its Denver to Paine Field route from 2x daily to 3x daily following the decision to cease San Francisco flights. During the peak of the pandemic in 2020, United suspended flights to Paine Field, but shortly returned with a daily flight. United will maintain this daily frequency until the route ends this October.

United will consolidate its Seattle area service to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) which is currently scheduled with six daily flights to Denver operated by Boeing 737 Family and Airbus A319 aircraft.

With United ceasing flights to Paine Field, Alaska Airlines will be the sole carrier to serve the airport with passenger flights (technically there's also San Juan Airlines). Alaska remains committed to Paine Field with the recent addition of Tucson flights starting this Fall.

Delaying Bangalore, Increasing Accra

United recently made changes to two of its newest long-haul routes. The airline's highly-anticipated San Francisco (SFO) to Bangalore (BLR) route, which is set to be United's longest route, has been further delayed to October 5, 2021.

Their new long-haul route was originally set to inaugurate in May 2021, however, due to restrictions, United chose to postpone the inaugural. This time, United also gave the route a frequency cut. Between October 5 and 29, the airline will operate SFO-BLR four times a week instead of daily, with no outbound departure on Thursday, October 7. From October 30, United will then increase SFO-BLR to daily.

United's other new long-haul route, Washington-Dulles (IAD) to Accra (ACC), is getting a boost this winter. Currently, the route operates three times a week but will increase to daily between December 1, 2021 and January 31, 2022. United continues to grow in Africa with this new Accra route and the recent launch of its Newark to Johannesburg route.
