UPDATE: Norse Atlantic Airways intends to begin flying from Oslo, Norway to Ontario, California next summer! More: https://twitter.com/IshrionA/status/1442863154925428737?s=20
"Can Ontario Airport land transatlantic flights?" That's it. That's the question.
This is more of a speculative post that will either age amazingly well or absolutely terribly.
In the past several years, Ontario Airport (ONT) has done well with attracting new routes and airlines. In 2017, the airport successfully gained an impressive transpacific flight to Taipei on China Airlines. During the pandemic within the last year, Ontario Airport gained service to Honolulu on Hawaiian Airlines and San Salvador on Avianca.
So, what's next? Surely like the majority of other decently-sized airports that lack transatlantic service, Ontario is also targeting it.
Demand between the United States and Europe remains depressed, but is continuing to rebound with countries lifting restrictions. Even then, new transatlantic routes remain rare as of now.
So, can Ontario Airport land transatlantic flights? We could get an answer in the next few weeks. Specifically, there's a certain new airline to watch that might grant Ontario these flights.
Again, this is more of a speculative post that will either age amazingly well or absolutely terribly.
